Reviews - Her Unlikely Bodyguard
4 out of 5 stars Thank goodness for Lorraine Nelson
By Michelle Fayard on December 6, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
Author Lorraine Nelson continues to amaze me with her ability to consistently deliver unforgettable characters, excellent dialogue and fast-paced plots filled with romantic suspense. Ms. Nelson also is among the best when it comes to writing about family themes, plus she knows how to add in the perfect dash of warm, laughter-filled moments. This is one author whose writing style is guaranteed to put her at the top of every romance reader’s To Be Read pile—and whose books are all true keepers. Just when I was looking for a new author, along came Lorraine Nelson. Don’t ever change, and please don’t ever stop writing!
3.0 out of 5 stars Bodyguard February 4, 2014 By Colfel Format:Kindle Edition
I liked this story overall. I thought the storyline was good. I would have liked to have seen more character development of how life was during time spent apart, and maybe more on a possible suspect stalker to follow or give clues. Other than that, the story read well and it held my interest throughout.

When Jemma Leigh Harding returns to her hometown after a ten year absence, she is doing more than coming to care for her cancer-stricken mother and father with diabetes. She is also healing an estrangement with them, introducing them to their grandson, and running from a stalker that has made her life miserable for six months. The last thing she expects is to be nearly run-down by her high school sweetheart on her first day home, breaking her ankle and allowing him to discover the truth about her return. Ted Garrity has also recently come back to Sommerville after time in the Army, marrying, having a child and losing his wife to a land mine. Jemma Leigh awakens all his protective instincts when he hears about her stalker, and soon they are spending all their time together again.
This story has just the right amount of romance and suspense. The mystery of Jemma Leigh's stalker as well as that of her past are interesting, as is the reconciliation with Ted. I loved how the answers to Zach's questions came out and the development of all the family relationships that Jemma Leigh and Zach had been missing. The final revelation of the stalker was a shock as well. My only real quibble with the story is that the timeline was hard to follow - at times, it seemed that events were following one upon another, but then something would be mentioned that showed several days must have passed (how her ankle healed, for example). I found that slightly disconcerting, but the writing was well done and the story worth reading. Ted and Jemma Leigh made a great romantic couple and the various Mounties made great side characters, as did Stacey and the children and grandparents.

4 Stars! good story, October 8, 2012 By David Ramsey "djjramsey" (michigan)
This review is from: Her Unlikely Bodyguard (Kindle Edition)
Jemma Leigh has been tormented by a stalker for months now. She finally gets scared enough to run! She runs to the only place she has left home. Her parents welcome her with open arms even with her son they have never had a chance to know. When her ex-boyfriend accidentally hits her with his truck, the old memories come flooding back to her. Ted and Jemma had been great together. But after graduation they went there separate ways. Ted going to the army and Jemma going to school. Now meeting again, the sparks are still there. When Ted see her son, he also finds out she has keept something from him as well. Will the problems of the past keep them apart? And when the stalker finds her again, and has already killed one of her friends, how will Jemma keep all who she loves safe?
Her Unlikely Bodyguard, is a very sweet love story with some danger mixed in. Jemma and Ted have immediate chemistry and you wonder how they ever separated in the first place. It gives the old adage of 'if it is meant to be , it will be", some merit. The love story itself would have been good but the adding of the stalker, just adds to the excitement. Wonderful, easy read. As a lover of lifetime movies, I could totally see this as one! Does have adult content so 18 and up.

After someone starts stalking Jemma Leigh, she heads back to her hometown for her own safety and that of her young son. Not long after arriving in town, Jemma is almost run over by none other than her ex -- the one man she's never gotten over. The man whom also happens to be her child's father though he doesn't know. Ted Garrity can't believe Jemma is back in town, or that he almost runs her over while driving through. When Ted learns that someone is stalking her, he decides to help keep her safe by becoming her personal bodyguard. Yet when he learns of the secret she's kept hidden for ten years, the question remains. Can he forgive her before the stalker makes their move?
This was a wonderful story full of passionate and chilling moments, two key elements to a romantic suspense. The plot was well-written and I enjoyed how it progressed with Jemma and Ted meeting again after ten years as well as how they came to be back together because of her stalker. The dialogue was full of intensity and kept me on the edge of every page with anticipation over what would happen next. The sex scenes were scorching, and illustrated the strong chemistry that Jemma and Ted had. What I liked so much about Jemma was her determination to hold it together for the sake of her son. While with Ted, I liked that he could look past the secret Jemma had kept from him to help keep her safe.
Overall, Ms. Nelson has done an exceptional job penning this novel which has given me an appreciation of her work and made me keen to read other stories written by her.

Lorraine Nelson has a unique knack for weaving tales of family, romance and suspense into an incredibly intoxicating creation. I like to refer to her as the 'Plot Witch' and with Her Unlikely Bodyguard, Lorraine has certainly cast another successful spell.
Jemma's former high-school boyfriend explodes into her life with a flair that can only be called 'karmic'. Jemma's new, quiet existence is shattered by old feelings and new troubles caused by her ex beau. Ted doesn't see it that way though. He has his own version of past and present events that have Jemma questioning and rethinking why she ever ran away in the first place.
With children the same age, Jemma and Teddy find there is more to their relationship than common ground. Jemma's stalker has plans of their own to sabotage and cause as much pain as possible. Like always, it is always the person no one ever suspects. I am usually pretty good at figuring these situations out, but Lorraine fooled me. That alone is cause for a 5 star review :)
I won't give away anymore of the details, because I really hope you will read Her Unlikely Bodyguard for yourself. Just know this isn't a typical romance by any means. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting another family of Lorraine's. She continues to entrance me with her ability to give us family, life and a love to believe in. This is how Romance books should be written. Authors should take notes and learn from one of the best, yet highly under-applauded writers of our time.
Thank you Lorraine for another wonderful journey. Until next time...

Cute story within the "I need a hero" niche.
We all loved the knight in shining armor saving the princess from the dragon in our fairy tales. So, why not modernize it with an ex-army special ops commando saving the school teacher from a stalker? Sure, the stalker thing has been played out before, but when I'm in the mood for a 'knight' in a contemporary setting there's no better route.
While the twists and turns in the plot were definitely sensationalized (think Lifetime movie) Her Unlikely Bodyguard is a fun summer read.

Right from the start the book pulls you in. So many secrets. You don’t know who to trust. The characters are believable. I was totally engrossed in the story. You have hot guys. Real-life situations. At first I struggled with the problem of Jemma being strong at some times and weak at others until I thought about how I’d feel if I were in her shoes and I realized I’d probably bounce up and down also. And this is what I love about Lorraine’s writing I lose all track of time, I can’t put the book down, I have to find out how it ends from the 1st chapter. And from the start she had me stumped. Who the stalker is came as a complete surprise. And stumping me is hard. My husband hates watching TV or reading books with me as even outside of my genre I usually figure out who done it very early on.
But this book was not only a good mystery. We also had some great kids in the book. Nothing I love more than single parents getting a 2nd chance at love. And kids at having a family. And extended family. And a community that comes together and helps each other. This is a book about hope and the goodness of people even while it has evil stalking the heroine. This book makes you yearn for a community like Somerville or if you are like me and live in such a community thankful that such places still exist.
If that was not enough we have a hot, steamy romance with just the right amount of sex. Hunky men who are not afraid of strong women but instead attracted by them. A woman who everyone wants because she is something special. Strong, sweet, loyal, beautiful, what normally we’d hate in another woman but instead we are rooting for her throughout the book.
I felt very privileged to have been able to read this before it was released and only wished that my health would have worked for the review to have been up on the day the book was released. If you love a good romance go get this book. I give it 5 stars. I can’t wait to read my next book by Lorraine and thank her for the honor and trust she put in me.
