Reviews - Love on the Rocks
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
ByMichelle Fayardon December 7, 2015
Format: Paperback
The first romance novel Lorraine Nelson wrote, Love on the Rocks came to life after a medical emergency required therapy. As Ms. Nelson explains in her author’s note, “In an effort to regain the flexibility in that hand, I began typing. I practiced with typing tests and such but soon got bored. The inkling of an idea began running through my mind, and I went with it. Seven weeks later, Love on the Rocks was edited and ready to go.”
Thank goodness Ms. Nelson decided to submit the manuscript to a publisher where the title found a home—and it’s a book that will find a home in its readers’ hearts and on their bookshelves, virtual or otherwise. For just like Lorraine, something that could have left her devastated led to one of life’s biggest joys—the same magic path Sara Compton, the incredibly sweet and strong heroine of Love on the Rocks, will discover. Sara is a heroine you’ll be both praying for and cheering for, as she escapes an abusive relationship and makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect her young baby—decisions that could lead to her arrest … or death.
Ms. Nelson, with her trademark skill in creating romantic suspense filled with unforgettable characters and smooth-flowing dialogue, beautifully builds bonds of love between Sara and the book’s hero. The plot will instantly hook you and keep the pages turning. And the book contains a surprising twist I totally didn’t anticipate. An excellent read all around.
4.0 out of 5 stars Love story February 4, 2014 By Colfel Format:Kindle Edition What a great story! I really liked this book as it talked about a woman who was strong enough to fight for the safety of her child and herself. The bravery of this woman was astounding. Sara had the chance for true love and never gave up on it. The sexy Dr. Jacobs was such a stud and loved Sara and her child so much he would move heaven and earth to ensure their safety. What a truly wonderful story!

Loved, Love on the Rocks!

I need to thank the TBR Pile for their giveaway that featured this story. I would not have found this story had it not been for them. I would also like to thank Lorraine Nelson for the copy that she emailed me because of the giveaway.
It took me a couple weeks since receiving this book to read it because I was leery due to the topic, domestic violence (DV). However, I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, DV hits a little too close to home, but I was able to read it with very little flashbacks to my own history. For that, I am thankful. Ms. Nelson did a very respectable job when taking on DV. I am going to express what I loved about this story because I feel like I will give things away if I do it like I normally would. I loved that Sara was strong enough to leave the POS that abused her. I love that she fought hard to protect herself and Charity, her daughter. I love that Sara was careful about how she placed Charity in the cave and was watching to make sure her daughter was safe. I didn't feel that Charity was in true danger and that Sara would have made sure of that! I love that Sara was able to find a way to still be part of Charity's life, even though she had to lie about it. I love that she was able to stay strong even when she was the most vulnerable.
I love that Anthony stepped up when he could have passed Charity on to the foster care system. I love that Anthony showed interest in Charity's safety from the beginning. I loved that Anthony was able to keep the fact that he heard Sara say that she was Charity's momma through the baby monitor and not immediately take action. I wondered if Anthony knew subconsciously that Sara was Charity's mother.
While there were parts that were more heart-wrenching than others, I thought this story was well written and did not glorify DV in any manner.

Sara is a young woman desperate to escape her abusive boyfriend. When his abuse causes her premature labor and delivery of her baby girl, she finally leaves him but has to run under another name when he continues to stalk her, disregarding the restraining order. After six months of running, out of cash and unable to keep a roof over their heads, she leaves her baby in a public place, hoping Child Services will keep baby Charity safe. The young doctor that finds the baby decides to care for her himself and jokingly says on television that he needs a live-in nanny. Jumping at the chance to be with her child, Sara applies for the job under a fake name and moves in, but her past catches up with them soon enough and again she runs.
I enjoy Ms. Nelson's writing and this novel is no exception. Although there are a few places where the plot is almost too far fetched, I found it overall exciting and a wonderful read. I appreciated the lengths to which they each went to protect Charity and loved the happy ended. I recommend it to romantic suspense fans, especially those that like the single parent finding love storyline.

Once again, Lorraine Nelson brings real-life issues to the forefront in Love On The Rocks. This story is to the point and without fluff. Of course, I immediately fell in love with this latest group of characters. How could I not? Their personalities so complex and enjoyable, I never wanted to see this end.
My heart broke equally for Sara and Anthony. Both carrying scars of the past and wary of trusting anyone. Both scared of what will happen if they do. Turns out, not trusting each other could be the worst decision of their lives.
Yet another story from Lorraine that makes you crave true love, want to take risks and embrace happy endings.
Lorraine Nelson has an incredible talent for flawless plotlines and believable characters and she ups the ante with each new story she brings us. Once again, I am in awe of her ability to suck a reader in so quickly. This one will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end

Lorraine has done it again! This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The beginning is so dramatic and emotional, you can't help but get caught up in the characters right away. I never felt disappointed, and read the entire book in less than 24 hours. I'm generally not a quick reader either, except for when something grasps my attention and won't let go. This is exactly what this brilliant author has done. Can't wait for her next release!
